De Pere, WI -- The De Pere community, heartbroken by the sudden death of a popular coach and teacher, is now honoring his memory. One year after losing Andy Cerrato, they're making sure his name lives on with a special scholarship ride that will be held on Saturday.
Andy Cerrato was a full time guy, a full time dad of three athletic daughters and a full time coach and teacher for dozens of others. When you lose a guy like this, there's a void that doesn't heal overnight.
"We've had our ups and downs through the year. This summer, I've really seen all three of them come together this summer," said Andy's wife, Tammy Cerrato.
Talk to anyone who knew him and they will tell you that winning and losing wasn't the most important aspect of sports, respecting all you came across was.
We both tried to teach the girls, you don't have to like everyone but be nice to everybody, and I think he really tried to live that way," she explained.
He was a tough competitor and respected educator who wasn't afraid to laugh especially at himself.
His wife says, "One year he dressed up as a biker for Halloween. He had the goatee and big muscle tattoos. It was just hilarious."
The fundraiser on Saturday will raise money for students at De Pere and his alma mater, Marinette. Many of the future recipients will never have met the man the scholarship is named after, but if they would like to know, Tammy will tell them.
"The best way to describe Andy is very friendly, outgoing, athletic, personable. People just really wanted to be around him."
The motorcycle and scooter ride will be held on Saturday, August 9th from 12:00pm-5:30pm at Chicago Street Pub in De Pere. Dinner, raffles and auctions will follow from 5:30pm-7:00pm. The address is 1950 Dickinson Rd.,
