GREEN BAY – A controversial proposed cell phone tower in Downtown Green Bay has gotten the green light from church parishioners.
St. Joseph's parish on 12TH Avenue received backlash from the community over their plans to build an AT&T cell tower on the back of church property. The tower would be built to look like a steeple, but would also stand next to a popular neighborhood park.
Parishioners were informed of neighborhood concerns as well as the church's reasons for wanting the tower. Of the 135 parishioners who cast ballots this weekend, 130 voted in favor, representing about 96% of the members.
If the Diocese of Green Bay grants approval for the proxy, AT&T representatives will finalize costs for the structure. The church then needs approval for the project from the City of Green Bay and the State of Wisconsin.
