CHILTON - New evidence has deputies re-examining a 35-year-old cold case.
Seventeen-year-old Dawn Schnetzer of Menasha disappeared in September of 1978, and her body was found a month later. Investigators say a flannel shirt found at the crime scene could be a key to solving the case.
"Who put the shirt out there? who was wearing the shirt. Why was the shirt placed out there," Sgt. Gary Steier, of the Calumet County Sheriff's Department, asked.
That does not mean the person is responsible for her death, but could be a person of interest.
"You try to be hopeful about every piece of information and you hope that the next lead or the next piece of information is the one that solves the case," says Steier.
Anyone having information about the flannel shirt or about this case should contact Sgt. Inv. Gary Steier of the Calumet County Sheriff’s Department at 920-849-2361, Ext 791, Calumet County Crimestoppers at 1-877-SOLVE CRIME, or the Menasha Police Department at 920-967-3500.
