OCONTO, WI- A Christmas Day bar fire has been ruled an arson in Oconto. The blaze at the Log Jam Saloon on the 900 block of Main Street, didn't hurt anyone but caused extensive smoke and water damage. Neighbors are saying they hope whoever started it gets caught and soon. Police say there were several suspicious items uncovered during the fire giving them reason to believe it was intentional.
A holiday investigation as someone intentionally setting fire to the Log Jam Saloon in downtown Oconto, causing $100,000 in damage.
A building around for more than 100 years. Al Schreiber of Oconto wants some answers.
"I would like to have it stay the way it was," says Schreiber.
But someone felt differently.
"This is a serious crime. No question about it."
Oconto Police are getting to the bottom of it. No arrests have been made but the case remains a top priority.
"We have several people we'd like to talk to. Witnesses. There was a lot of people that any time there's a fire that come out and about," says Police Chief Dan Ault.
"Hopefully it could be renovated by somebody."
John Matravers owns Oconto Furniture next door. Forced to close until Monday due to minor smoke and water damage. Thankful the fire didn't spread too much, but concerned this could happen again.
"I own three businesses so that is scary to me," says Matravers.
As this is the second arson in downtown Oconto, the other happening just a block down on Main St. this past summer.
