CHICAGO -- Relief across the state tonight after a Waukesha County teenager, who has been missing since Tuesday, is found safe.
Officers say 15-year-old Kathryn Stalbaum walked in a Chicago Police Department today and asked for help. Police say she has spoken to her parents tonight, but investigators are still trying to figure out if she left willingly or was taken. The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and a victims' specialist form the FBI are in Chicago tonight preparing to bring her home.
"I don't know the precinct she walked into but she approached a Chicago police officer and asked for help and that concluded the portion of the story," says Inspector Eric Severson with the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.
Investigators say Kathryn's family couldn't be happier she's been found safe and healthy.
Stalbaum missed her school bus Tuesday morning and texted a friend she'd ride her bike the two miles to Kettle Moraine High School. She never arrived. Her bike later was found in Waukesha, about eight miles from where authorities expected to find it.
Her disappearance is still under investigation.
