DE PERE-- Local Filipinos are still reeling from images of the destruction caused by last week's typhoon that hit the Philippine islands.

Marla Sarino now lives in Menasha. She was born and raised in Ilolio, about 290 miles from the area hit hardest by the storm. "I was concerned when I heard this was one of the worst typhoons on earth is what scared me,” Sarino said. She’s contacted loved ones via Facebook but she's worried about the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the storm "There will be a lot of orphans that will be accounted for once everything is done," Sarino said.

St. Norbert College freshman Mary Villamor is also keeping tabs on relatives in the Philippines using Facebook.
"It makes me sad and I feel like I need to help but I don't know how since I’m not there anymore. Everyone's suffering and I’m sitting here doing nothing," Villamor said.
Both women are hopeful donations will come pouring in, to help those devastated by the storm.
Donations are being accepted at the New Freedom Church in Howard.
