OSHKOSH, WI- The heat is taking center stage on this first night of Rock USA. With temperatures soaring near triple digits organizers are taking extra precautions to make sure people are safe this week while spending hours outside in Oshkosh.
Big names are on the lineup and organizers are expecting crowds close to 40,000 a day this week. Guests are allowed to bring in water bottles. Two free water spickets on the grounds for people to use.
What is more concerning for first responders is alcohol. Guests tend to only drink beer and liquor which can lead to dehydration much faster.
"Make sure you couple that with water that's probably one of the big misnomers," says Jim Austad of the Oshkosh Fire Department.
"Eat food as well because that's where you're going to get your electrolytes and your potassium from food also," say Event Organizer Cher Liebhauser.
Emergency responders urge guests to relax in the shade every now and then. They also encourage people to wear light colored clothing and drink a couple bottles of water every hour.
