ASHWAUBENON -- It's the last day for preparations as the girls state basketball tournament comes to the Resch Center tomorrow. The arena is almost ready as the final touches are put on the court. Excitement in the air for staff and fans eager for the tournament to start.
The WIAA is thrilled to have the tournament back for another year in the green bay area. Last year was the first time it was held in our area, attendance was around 39,000. But this time around they hope to get more.
"Hoping to get over 40. We were shooting for that last year and we got really, really close," said Deb Hauser Associate Director of the WIAA.
A lot of work has gone into making this year even better than last. As the banners are hung and floor decals layed out, the atmosphere starts to change.
"Just the energy it brings to the building and the fan base and the people really create a different type of excitement," said Ken Wachter President of PMI Entertainment.
Students at Kimberly High plan to fill the seats and support their girls basketball team. Talking with a few of the students, it's clear they plan to bring home another gold ball. like they did back in '98.
"We're really excited for the girls to get there. It's been a long time since we've been there, and all the hard work and effort they've put in, they really deserve this," said student Drake Olivier.
The tournament will now be held in the Green Bay area until 2020.
