DE PERE, Wis.- This weekend is free fishing weekend in the state. Thousands of fishermen and women of all ages are hitting the waters. It's the second year for free fishing. This allows anyone to fish anywhere in the state without a license or trout stamp.
"I think it's a good idea. It gets people out, gets them motivated, gets them out of the house at least. That's the biggest thing. You know people go crazy sitting in the house, this is better than watching TV all the time," said Dave Klemm
The DNR started free fishing weekend last year. The hope is to attract more people to ice fishing, which is growing in popularity across the state.
