GREEN BAY, Wis.-- The Federal Highway Administration has approved Governor Scott Walker's request for aid connecting Leo Frigo Bridge.
According to the Wisconsin DOT, the money will cover the costs related to the bridge for 180 days, retroactive to September 25th, the date the bridge was closed. "We appreciate the FHWA's prompt response to help us complete repairs to the Leo Frigo Bridge." DOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb said in a statement.
The news comes a day after engineers discovered pier 22 had settled another half inch due to corrosion. Within the next few days, support towers will be placed next to the pier to stabilize the bridge and protect workers during the investigation.
There is no word on how long the Leo Frigo Bridge will be closed.
