GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It's never too early to get kids excited for college and a new coat of paint may help. For the past few months Jefferson Elementary School has been undergoing an extreme college makeover.
With the help of volunteers from UWGB Phuture Phoenix program and the Sunrise Optimist Club, every classroom doorway is being painted with different college or university colors. The hope is to get students thinking about higher education. "This is just one phase of it, adding the colors to the outside of the classrooms," Jefferson Teacher Jenny Woldt explained. "For about 6 years now, we've been promoting college awareness with our partnership with Phuture Phoenix."
Jefferson teachers got the idea for the contest after it proved successful at Eisenhower Elementary, also in Green Bay.
