TOWN OF STEPHENSON, Wis.-- Marinette County authorities say a small, experimental airplane has crashed in the Town of Stephenson.

The incident happened before noon Tuesday near Pheasant Drive.

The pilot, a 66 year old man from Lena, was able to get out of the plane, but was taken to a Marinette hospital after suffering back pain. He told deputies he was forced to land in a field due to engine trouble.

The pilot was believed to be en route to the Iron Mountain, Michigan area.
