GREEN BAY - The big game isn't happening until Sunday, but leaders in downtown Green Bay are working to make the home opener a weekend-long celebration. The goal is to encourage visitors to go beyond the stadium district and experience what the rest of the city has to offer.
"Regardless of your age, where you're coming from, your background.. you're going to find something down here, and it's going to be fun," said Brian Johnson with Current Young Professionals.
Now that the home opener weekend is here, there's no shortage of things to do -- from Heritage Trail Trolley Tours to a CityDeck Tailgate.
"It's something that's just entertaining and fun to do to get people in the spirit of what's going to happen over at Lambeau Field on Sunday," Johnson said.
Hagemeister Park will play host to a number of the weekend's events. Workers there say visitors to Green Bay are sure to be impressed by the new face of downtown.
"A lot of people are just surprised at how the downtown Green Bay has changed over the last couple years," said Hagemeister Park managing partner Jess Miller.
Another big event this weekend is the official unveiling of the Packers Heritage Trail Plaza. It's happening Saturday at 11:30am.
The CityDeck Tailgate runs from 3:00pm-9:15pm Saturday. It's set to feature food, live music, and plenty of Packers gear.
