Groundbreaking for New Domestic Abuse Shelter in Manitowoc

By Rhonda Spangler. CREATED Aug 8, 2014

MANITOWOC, Wis. - There will soon be a new safe haven for victims of  domestic abuse on the Lakeshore.

Ground was broken Friday on a new shelter in Manitowoc.  The facility will help with increased demand for services in the community.  It will replace the old shelter which only has 19 beds.

"We have been operating at near capacity for the last 3 or 4 years, we've been in the existing building that we're in now for about 26 years, and we've just outgrown that space," says Sue Sippel, Executive Director for Manitowoc DVC.

Construction on the  new shelter will be done in about 9 months.
