Menasha--Menasha police officers say a woman with a mental health condition called 911 more than 150 times from April to July. This put the safety of those with legitimate emergencies at risk.
Menasha police officers say they responded as many as 10 times a day to the woman's false alarms. Now they have a new procedure in place to handle the calls. They will only send an officer if they don't hear her voice.
All other 911 policies remain the same. The woman now lives with family members.
State law says intentionally misusing 911 calls can lead to an arrest and criminal charges. Police want to remind people that it is good to know your local police department's non-emergency number.
