GREEN BAY, WI- The government shutdown having an impact here in Wisconsin. While most Federally-Funded offices remain open, employees are anxious to see just how long this shutdown will last. The Wic program and the Veterans Clinic here Green Bay remain open. However that may change if the government remains shutdown for a long period of time.
In Howard, the Internal Revenue Service office closed. The Wisconsin Water Research Center.. Which monitors water quality in our state is among the agencies closed today. And Fort Mccoy in western Wisconsin furloughed 900 civilian employees.
The WIC program in Green Bay helps six thousand women and children a month. The federally funded food program remains open for now. If the shutdown stays intact the office could be in trouble.
"You're always concerned if something as far as how long this may go on, so we hope that there will be speedy resolution to the issue," says Bonnie Kuhr with the WIC Program.
The Green Bay Job Center which sees five to six hundred job seekers a month could close without federal money if this goes on for a month.
