MADISON, Wis. -- Governor Scott Walker signed a declaration of emergency to help land federal money to repair the Leo Frigo Bridge. "Our number one objective is public safety," the Governor said in a media conference call Friday Morning. "The Leo Frigo Bridge is a critical transportation link for motorists and commerce in Brown County and the State of Wisconsin."
A pier settled early Wednesday morning causing the roadway to bend. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation ordered the bridge closed indefinitely and detours have been setup across the east side of Green Bay.
"We are mobilizing state and federal resources to quickly assess the bridge," DOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb said.
Engineers are investigating what caused pier to settle. That process could take days before the DOT can determine how long the Leo Frigo Bridge will be closed.
