WASHINGTON, DC- The tragedy affecting people all over the country including several people from Northeast Wisconsin who have ties to that naval base. As we learn what happened in Washington today, a Brillon native now working at the Navy Yard shares her story saying she feels lucky to be alive tonight.
Kuhns is one of three thousand navy employees at the base in Washington DC recalling the scene as horrific, shocking, people running everywhere.
"There was a young lady who walked out with her hand all bloody and we were all like the heck is going on in there. It's not a fire drill something more than that," says Kuhns.
Kuhns is thinking about what could have been. This morning, missing the normal bus she catches to work. If she hadn't she would most likely have been in the building at the time of the shooting.
"I could have very easily been one of those people."
Kuhns reached out to her friends that work at the naval base, saying nobody she knows was killed or injured in the rampage.
