Green Bay--It's a new school year for kids all across Northeast Wisconsin. Police want drivers to remember the rules of the road as children head back to class.
The speed limit is 15 mph in a school zone. Speeding in these areas could land you a hefty fine, costing you more than a regular speeding ticket.
Captain Florence of the Green Bay Police Department said it's important for parents to do their part and educate their children how to walk safely to school.
"Stay on the sidewalk, stay away from the road, follow the crossing guard's instructions and make sure you look both ways before entering the roadway," said Florence.
Captain Florence compares this time of the year to the first snowfall. Drivers are not used to the amount of people crossing streets. Therefore, give yourself some extra time to get to work, and take extra percautions.
