Green Bay-- A proposal to build a new Walmart in Green Bay's downtown has many people upset. The retailer has expressed interest in finding a site in the Broadway District for a new store.
The land being looked at as a possible location is Larsen Green, which is 23 acres of land owned by On Broadway Inc.
Mayor Jim Schmitt is among those opposed to the idea saying he's not sure it's the best move for the downtown.
"We have a plan and I think that plan is working," said Schmitt. "It does not call for a big box retailer int he heart of the Broadway District."
Some Broadway District buisness owners are concerned that a Walmart could take away business and create unfair competition.
A meeting Thursday night from 6-8 p.m. at the Neville Public Museum, will allow people the chance to discuss what they would like to see in the Broadway District.
