Green Bay, WI -- Parents and their children are devastated after learning 5 and 6-year-olds will have to be taken out of the Brown County Salvation Army's summer Kroc Kamp. The state has informed the organization that it is not a licensed day care facility. Salvation Army leaders thought the camp was exempt, but 48 children and six teachers involved will be forced to leave the program. It's making not only parents and the kids upset but also the leaders.
"We are very disappointed by that. We love having them here. We recognize we made the mistake and are doing all that we can to make the transition as easy as possible," said Captain Ken Shiels of the Brown County Salvation Army.
Camp organizers say they are working with other agencies in the area to provide room for the children in other facilities. They're also working with the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families to be fully licensed by the end of the summer.
