MANITOWOC- Manitowoc is picking up the pieces after last night's damaging hail storm. Golf ball size hail and bigger fell on the city ruining cars, homes and businesses. Today they're left figuring out what to do next.
Roofing contractors and car dealerships could hardly keep up with how many calls were coming in as they try to assess the damage and help people figure out what to do now.
Nicole Bearman has been evaluating dents in cars all day. She is a specialist, brought in after severe weather damage hits an area.
"We've been looking at cars since 6:30 this morning and I am sure that it will go late into the night," said Bearman.
The hail storm last night is causing people in Manitowoc to have to start making repairs to damaged homes and cars.
"We've already today had over 100 people in with damaged cars," said Dick Kornely, the owner of First Chrysler in Manitowoc.
And cars aren't the only thing that were damaged.
"If your vehicle was parked outside at your home and it sustained damage most likely your home is going to be damaged as well," said Bearman.
That's where Derek Duggan comes in. He's been going door to door all day looking at people's roofs for free. Duggan is a contractor with America's Best Remodeling. He comes in with his team to help repair damaged homes after bad weather.
"Missing leaves on the trees and broken glass or seeping water into the house is a good indicator of damage," said Duggan.
Duggan marks the damaged areas with chalk. Eight or more marks withing a 10x10 area and the roof is considered totaled according to Duggan.
Experts say just because your roof may look fine from the ground doesn't mean it didn't sustain damage and if it's not fixed you could see problems down the road.
Car dealerships in Manitowoc are asking that you be patient because they are swamped right now, but they guarantee they will fix the damage as soon as possible.
