SHAWANO COUNTY – A 22 year-old man is dead after what authorities are calling a hit-and-run. The Shawano County Sherriff’s Dept. say they found a man laying on County Road M at the Highway 29 overpass Friday morning at 2:30.
“The caller stated that the male was not breathing and not conscious,” said Det. Sgt. Gordon Kowaleski, with the Shawano County Sherriff’s Dept.
Authorities have identified the man as Timothy Meade, originally from Stephenson, Michigan and visiting friends in Shawano.
Initial information indicates the car involved in this hit and run may have been an SUV or pickup truck, or a larger type of vehicle. It was traveling east bound towards the City of Shawano.
“Never seen anything like that happen here,” said Michael Campbell, who lives less than a mile away from where the hit and run happened. “We have people walking quite a bit.”
Tonight, deputies are looking for more answers, hoping people will come forward with information to help them put together a timeline, to show when Meade may have been hit.
“Even though someone feels it's not important to them, it may be important to us,” said Kowaleski.
Neighbors say they would like some answers as well.
“If someone hits someone and leaves, I definitely do hope they find him. They should pay for what they've done, one way or another,” said Campbell.
Anyone with information is asked to call Shawano County Sheriff’s Dept. or local law enforcement agencies.
