State DOJ Preps $125k in Anti-Heroin Grants

CREATED Jun. 25, 2013

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state Department of Justice is getting ready to launch an anti-heroin media campaign and hand out grants to help local governments combat the drug.

The agency is preparing a statewide television spot as well as radio ads and a web page designed to warn young people about the drug. The campaign is expected to launch in late summer or early fall.

The agency also is looking to award up to $125,000-worth of one-time grants to local governments with wide-ranging ideas on how to use police, social service agencies and health care providers in team efforts to combat and treat heroin use. DOJ officials are currently sifting through the applicants.
