Town of Menasha-- It's not surprising a near-death experience can bring a survivor new found perspective but for 20-year-old Zachary Nguyen, a brush with death has brought only confirmation. He hopes now people can see and learn from his pain.
One week has passed since Zachary's accident and he's making progress. Today he could open both eyes. His friend Kelsey Tadych says, "Quite honestly, after seeing him in the hospital and seeing him today I never would have guessed he'd be this good already."
Zachary fractured his skull, several vertebrae, and broke his collar bone. Pins are holding bones in his left arm in place. Stitches close several deep cuts on his legs. A week ago Wednesday, Nguyen was riding his motorcycle on County Road II near the Town of Winchester. He says a truck pulled out in front of him. "Before I knew it, I hit it and I blacked out," Zachary remembers.
Doctors say the only reason he was able to wake up, is the helmet he was wearing.
Nguyen says, "If I wasn't wearing it, I wouldn't be here right now."
