BELLEVUE-- As work on future site of the Costco store moves forward, the northbound lanes of County Road GV are closing for improvements.
"Slow down and be careful. If there's an alternate route and it takes you a minute longer please take it it's a lot safer for everybody and it will be a lot better commute for everybody,” said Brown County Engineering Manager Paul Fontecchio.
More than 20,000 cars use the stretch of road every day. Some who work in the heart of the construction zone say they're already worried about losing customers.
“It's been very dead today. Now with all the construction going on between Taco Bell and us, I’d say sales went down at least 25 percent,” said BP employee Sherri Whetung.
The project manager says retailers have been bracing for this day.
"They know what's coming, of course there is always a difference between knowing what's coming and actually seeing it happen,” Fontecchio said.
And while the road work may slow down business this summer, most agree the eventual economic impact will be worth the wait.
