A Green Bay man is charged in what police are calling a domestic violence homicide.
50-year-old Michael Whitmire appeared in court today.. on first degree intentional homicide charges in connection with the stabbing death of 45-year-old Ouida Wright last friday.
The criminal complaint describes the scene at this home and also a possible motive. Prosecutors say Wright was breaking up with Whitmire and told him she was going to see other people. That's when Whitmire snapped.
"He and I both read it, he indicates he understands the charge that is alleged," says Whitmire's Attorney.
Michael Whitmire made his first appearance in court today three days after being labeled a person of interest in the death of Ouida Wright.
A criminal complaint describes the scene. Police arrived to find Whitmire lying on the couch covered in blood and wiright on the floor with her throat cut. A knife was lying next to her and a message on the wall written in blood saying "I love you Ouida." Police say Whitmire said to them "I did it. I killed her. I tried to kill myself but i couldn't."
Todd Gutowski works at the home across the street. He says he heard yelling the night before.
"Come running out in the road and start fighting in the road and they both went running back in the house and they were fighting back out on the porch."
Police are calling this a domestic violence homicide. Whitmire's next court appearance will be May 17th.
Whitmire will remain in the Brown County Jail unless he makes bond which is $250,000. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.
