Northeast Wisconsin is learning how to deal with mass casualty situations. Due to recent tragedies like the Sikh Temple shooting and the Azana spa shooting, both in the state of Wisconsin, a special training session is preparing law enforcement for the worst.
Simulation gun shots, injured actors plus police and first responders were training hard at NWTC.
"We're taking all these miltary medical techniques and teaching the first responders to be able to go in there and do that to be able to try and save as many lives as possible," said Chad Stiles, the EMS instructor for the training session.
Everything needed to simulate a real live hostile situation is here. Police, fire, medic and even the SWAT team and they dress completely for the situation, including bullet proof vests, plastic guns and even a shield to protect them from flying debris.
This drill teaching police to think and react like medics and medics to think like police. First responders say it prepares them for the "new normal."
