WAUSAUKE, Wis. -- Helga Kelly remembers 1944 like it was yesterday. Back then, she was 7 years old and living with her family in the heart of Nazi Germany.
"The terrible hunger, there was nothing to get in the stores;" Kelly remembers. "All the shelves were empty, what we could get Mama got from the black market."
Kelly remembers her two biggest fears growing up in Berlin. One, the endless bombing by allied forces that summer. The other, having her family history discovered by the German Gestapo. "My Father's Sister's married Jewish people, and my cousins were all half Jews." Kelly recalled.
