Sheyboygan Mother to be Sentenced in 1957 Death
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin woman convicted of killing her baby more than 50 years ago is scheduled to be sentenced.
Seventy-six-year-old Ruby C. Klokow (KLOH'-koh) of Sheboygan is due to be sentenced Wednesday afternoon.
She was convicted in February in her daughter's 1957 death. Prosecutors plan to recommend a sentence of 45 days in jail and 10 years of probation, citing her age and medical issues.
When the baby's death was initially investigated Klokow told detectives the 6-month-old rolled off the couch and bumped her head. The death was ruled accidental, but the case was reopened in 2008 after her adult son came forward with stories of horrific child abuse.
When she pleaded no contest Klokow told the judge she'd felt a lifetime of remorse over her daughter's death.
