Could social media be banned on school grounds after another video of a fight at Bay Port High School is posted on Facebook?
School administrators say they want to teach students to be more responsible with social media.
Administrators at the Howard-Suamico School District say they have a policy for use of electronics and social media during school hours. Last week the school restricted students of using Facebook.
After talking with students and parents, they say banning social media all together may be going too far.
"You got to have something to do, so you just use your phone."
Nathan Knutson is a junior at Bay Port High School and is one of many frequent social media users at the school.
"It's used a lot. I would say it's used more during school than outside of school because when you're sitting in class bored, the first thing you do is pick up your phone and use it," says Knutson.
However after another video of two girls fighting, this one taken in the school cafeteria, was posted on Facebook, school administrators are talking about banning phones as well.
"It's an unbiased view of what happened."
Todd Sanders both social media expert and a parent says these sites will always be a tool even in this case.
"It could be used for evidence," says Sanders.
While school districts can't fully ban Facebook and Twitter from students, they say it's more important to teach them responsibility when using social media.
And that's something school administrators may take a look at in the near future.
"If the social web is going to be a part of the students future, to take the time to educate them on social web," says Sanders.
Students at Bay Port say it's just a matter of being careful what you post.
"Don't put stupid stuff on there. You're not going to get in trouble," says Knutson.
As social media continues to become more popular.
School administrators say in this case, social media was used in a way that was disruptive to the school environment which is why they prohibited phones during school hours last week.
