HOWARD-- Several concerned parents contacted NBC26 about videos being posted online showing female students at Bay Port High School fighting. Students say someone even created a Facebook page to promote fights between female students. The page has been taken down.
The video was posted on Facebook this month. It shows two Bay Port High School girls fighting. The altercation was quickly broken up by a staff member, but it has some parents worried.
"We are very concerned for our children. Howard-Suamico is an excellent school system at the same time our kids are being at risk,” said Howard parent Marie Santiago.
Students say the fights have created a lot of drama in the school, but they aren't concerned for their safety.
"There's only been two this year, but it has been ripping our school apart,” said student Julia Stanzel.
Administrators have taken action against the students involved, including the student who recorded the incident.
"These kids had time during the fights to videotape, put it on Facebook, put it on You Tube, that's where it needs to stop, they wanted attention, now they are going to get the attention they need because I believe they need help before someone is seriously injured,” Santiago said.
The school has restricted students’ use of Facebook on campus.
"The teachers are trying to prevent fights going out on Snap Chat and Facebook and all that stuff to better the community and kids are too immature that they are going to whine about it," said Bay Port senior Ryan Nick.
District leaders say they're taking the necessary steps to keep students safe.
