DE PERE - Hundreds gathered at West De Pere High School Sunday to take part in a walk raising awareness about MS.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease that affects more than 10,000 people in Wisconsin. Sunday's fundraiser was the first of 18 similar events throughout the state.
"We're hoping to raise about 120 thousand dollars. That's our goal for the year. We have a little more than a thousand walkers doing that -- individual people as well as teams. There's some really phenomenal teams that are out here that do fundraising throughout the year as well as just within the last couple weeks," said Debbie Bernarde, who helped organize the fundraiser.
All of the money collected through Sunday's fundraiser will go to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Wisconsin.
