KAUKAUNA, Wis. -- News of the Boston Marathon explosions is hitting close to home. A number of people from Northeast Wisconsin were participating in Monday's marathon, including Jessica Tamulion from Kaukauna, who witnessed the explosions firsthand.
"You heard this big, loud boom.. and you turn around and there's a big, huge cloud of smoke and dust and that type of stuff. And about 5, 10, 15 seconds later.. a second one goes off, similar type of look and feel and hearing of the sound," she said.
Tamulion says at first, no one around her realized what happened. Then, a mass panic ensued.
"People were running everywhere, running away from the scene," she recalls.
While Tamulion and her friends were able to make it out safely, she says her thoughts and prayers are with those who did not.
"It's just a very sad, sad situation on a day that's supposed to be memorable for people that have really worked for this and.. it's part of their journey. And for people that did this, it's very sad," she said.
