APPLETON - The city of Appleton is experiencing a housing market boom. After years of struggling with the tough economy, the Valley Home Builders Association says things are starting to turn around.
The city's housing market is on the upswing for the fifth consecutive month, and it means a major boost for the local economy.
"We've seen improvements in housing starts, housing prices and employment," said Christine Schaefer with the Valley Home Builders Association.
J.P. Jedwabny with J&S Homes says the upswing is having a positive impact on many, including those who are looking for jobs.
"The economy is always pretty steady here. We don't see the big ups and downs like the major metropolitan areas do," he said.
According to MTD Marketing Services, new home starts were up 30 percent in Appleton in 2012. This year, the numbers are already up 29 percent compared to the first three months of last year. It's a trend the city's builders hope will continue.
