ROSENDALE -- Deputies find a body tonight after an unusual house fire in Fond du Lac County.
Neighbors near Highway 26 and Wisconsin Street were evacuated and the Highway shut down late this afternoon because investigators believed there may be booby-trapped.
The sheriffs department received a call from the man's relatives around 3:15, and they were fearful the suspect could be suicidal. When deputies arrived at the home, they found it engulfed in flames. Tonight, the fire has been completely extinguished and deputies say they have located a body inside. A team of detectives is now inside the home tonight to determine how the fire started and whether it was, in fact, a suicide.
Sgt. Jeff Bonack with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's department said on-scene tonight, "It's hard to tell right now. The case is open, everything is under investigation. We really don't know at this point and we need to check further.
Investigators will spend several more hours at the scene tonight, working to determine exactly what happened. All those who were evacuated have been allowed back inside their homes. The highway has reopened tonight.
NBC26 will bring you more information on this case, as it becomes available.
