Kewaunee Power Station Layoffs Announced

KEWAUNEE -- Approximately 633 workers are affected by the closing of the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Station.
A series of layoffs will begin May 31, 2013. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development's Rapid Response services are working with the Bay Area Workforce Development Board to assist those affected. The power station is being shut down and the owner, Dominion, is planning for the shutdown to be permanent. Employees are being offered a chance to continue working for Dominion at one of the company's other locations.
The layoffs are scheduled to happen as follows:
May 31, 2013: 202 positions
June 30, 2013: 56 positions
July 31, 2013: 46 positions
August 1 - December 31, 2013: 31 positions
January 1 - September 30, 2014: 5 positions
September 30, 2014 or later: 293 positions
Dominion does anticipate having between 50 and 100 employees at the site long-term dealing with responsibilities such as security, monitoring, and regulation requirements.
