Picking the Pope

CREATED Mar. 4, 2013

Vatican City--It's a big day for the Catholic Church as the first step in picking the new pope starts today.

Cardinals officially started meeting at 9:30 a.m. Vatican City Time, which is about three and half hours ago our time. They won't necessarily announce the start date of the conclave. The official conclave doesn't begin until all the cardinals are present.

The funcion of the pre-conclave session is to discuss issues facing the Catholic church and help the men choose the right person for the papacy.
