Brown County--The number of alcohol-related traffic deaths in Brown County has gone down. In 2010, 11 people died in a crash linked to alcohol. In 2012, the number dropped to five, but the OWI Task Force says there's more work to be done. On Monday members had a message, they are "proud", of the improving numbers. However, the challenge of changing a statewide drinking-culture, remains.
"I think that it's pretty fair to say that the numbers speak for themselves and that we are making a difference," said Green Bay Officer Mike Knetzger. From 5 deaths in 2012, police say "zero" is their goal. "The public is sick and tired of of innocent people being killed by drunk drivers. It's a selfish choice," said Mike Panosh of the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The numbers are looking better for Brown County. Car crashes, linked to alcohol are down as well. Nearly 300 in 2010 to 177 in 2012.
