A heated meeting Monday in Green Bay over a request to raise the capacity at St John's Homeless Shelter.
The planning commission tabled the shelter's request tonight to raise its capacity from 64 to 84 beds. The city is working with the shelter on a long-term solution.Mayor Jim Schmitt called for the removal of St John's General Director Deacon Tim Reilly as part of that solution.
"We need people focused on the homeless population and not on fundraising or whatever he's working on. We need to focus on the homeless and that's what we're trying to do," said Mayor Jim Schmitt.
"We've been operating in good faith on that until the middle of December when we were told that that plan was invalid and that was a discussion that I think should have taken place," said Deacon Tim Reilly.
The city will not issue any citations during this time. The planning commission will meet again in April to decide on the issue.
