Bursting pipes can cause quite a mess and even damage property, but it is preventable.
Water utility workers say to prevent frozen water in your pipes:
Keep your house temperature at least 40 degrees or higher, insulate pipes for added warmth and shut off any outside drains or faucets before the big freeze.
Plumbers also say if you start to notice water flow problems a quick fix and even a prevention technique is to run a little water until the flow becomes normal again.
The most common homes at risk to frozen pipes are mobile homes due to the fact that the pipes are above the ground.
And if your pipes do start to freeze up it is recommended that you look for the areas that are not having water and try to thaw the pipes out with a hair dryer but do not use an open flame to thaw out pipes.
