Lawrence University Names New President

APPLETON, Wis.-- Lawrence University is reaching out to the 'Ivy League' to find its next academic leader. The University board named Mark Burstein, the executive vice president of Princeton University, to become Lawrence's 16th President.

"I was drawn to Lawrence's rigorous academic environment, it's commitment to providing an individualized  learning experience to all students," Burstein said in a statement. " I'm looking forward to working with colleagues to ensure Lawrence's tradition of excellence.

Burstein, 51, was named Princeton's executive vice president in 2004. He also served at Columbia University in several leadership positions.

A native of Cedar Grove, N.J., Burstein earned a bachelor's degree in history and independent studies at Vassar College, and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
