Fond du Lac-- Mercury Marine says a high demand for its outboard motors mean it needs more employees to build them. The company is adding 170 jobs in the next four weeks.
Jim Schlumpf says the Mercury brand has been good for his Hobart business and good for Wisconsin. "The local people not only have the jobs but they also have the product close at hand," Schlumpf said. He believes the company's wide range of models has helped Mercury close the market over the years. The company is ramping up production of its most popular boat motors to keep up with demand.
"We've been just adding steadily over the last four years," said Denise Devereaux, Vice President of Human Resources. The Fond du Lac facility employs about 2,600, but more people are needed to build. "They don't have to have manufacturing experience. Certainly if they do that's great but we're willing to bring in people who are dedicated and have a passion for what we do," Devereaux added. The company plans to fill the open jobs, "immediately."
