GREEN BAY -- The Denmark volunteer fire department received a huge grant today. Georgia-Pacific handed over a $10,000 check as part of its bucket brigade. The grant program supports fire departments in communities where Georgia-Pacific has facilities.
"We really do believe in supporting the local fire departments and that with our bucket brigade especially those that have a heavy volunteer basis," said Randy Harbath with Georgia-Pacific.
Denmark Fire Chief Dave Bielinski said, "This year, we're going to use the money towards replacement of helmets for our department."
Since 2006, the Bucket Brigade program has supported local fire departments in or near Georgia-Pacific facility communities through more than $1 million in contributions. The program meets critical needs, particularly for fire departments in small and rural communities with a large volunteer base. In fact, of the one million fire fighters in the United States, 70 percent are volunteers, according to the National Volunteer Fire Council and the National Fire Protection Association.
