GREEN BAY - There are safety concerns following Governor Walker's win Tuesday night. Police are investigating death threats found on social media websites. While many of the threats were posted anonymously, police are taking them very seriously.
Many of the threatening messages were posted on Twitter. One user tweeted, "Scott Walker must die." Another said, "Someone in the NRA should shoot Scott Walker in the head." Yet another tweet read, "Scott Walker will die within the next week. I've already paid for the hit."
The Milwaukee Police Department released a statement regarding the threats Wednesday. It read:
"All threats are handled seriously and can represent a criminal act. People cannot assume anonymity via social media while issuing a threat to another's safety or life."
However, the threats aren't having any impact on the governor's daily appearances. A spokesman for the governor says while security is in place, there will be no changes to Walker's schedule.
"We don't ever compromise our safety," said Governor Walker on Wednesday. "But, I'm never going to let that stand in the way of doing my job and being out with the people across the State of Wisconsin."
The Department of Justice is also getting involved. A spokesperson tells NBC26 "any and all threats towards the governor will be investigated."
