Packers Super Bowl Ring Recovered in Drug Sting
CHICAGO-(AP) A federal drug-trafficking investigation has led to six arrests in the Chicago area and the seizure of heroin, cash, weapons and a Green Bay Packers Super Bowl ring reported stolen from a team executive.
Authorities say the accused are part of an organization with direct ties to Mexico. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration used electronic surveillance during the investigation and made the arrests May 21.
It isn't clear how the Super Bowl ring fell into the hands of alleged drug traffickers.
Authorities also seized about 44 pounds of heroin, about $1.4 million in cash, 18 weapons and other jewelry.
The defendants remain in federal custody and face charges of conspiracy to knowingly possess with intent to distribute heroin. The charge carries a 10-year mandatory prison term.
