CAMPBELLSPORT, Wis. - Charges were filed Wednesday in a crash that killed three teenagers in Campbellsport in February.
Carly Ottery, 18, faces those charges in the death of Katie Berg, Caitlin Scannell and Sabrina Stahl.
The SUV Ottery was driving with eight other teens inside crashed when she lost control.
According to charging documents just filed, Ottery told deputies her friends "weren't wearing seatbelts" and "I was driving fast because it was cool."
"Speed at over 100 miles per hour at the start of the crash sequence. There were more passengers in the vehicle than there were seatbelts available," noted Winnebago County District Attorney Christian Gossett.
The Fond du Lac district attorney's office filed three charges of homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Ottery could spend 30 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
Prosecutors will not say if any of the families involved wanted these criminal charges.
People in Campbellsport are reluctant to speak publicly about what happened, but some quietly question the charges -- saying off camera they believe Carly Ottery is already serving a life sentence with the emotions from that day.
Carly Ottery's family did not want to comment.
She's due in court for this first time in June.
