Triple Murder, Suicide in De Pere
DE PERE, WI - Four people are dead after a murder suicide in De Pere. Officers were called Friday afternoon to a home near the intersection of South Erie Street and Okeefe Road on De Pere's East side.
Police say a man shot and killed his wife and two children, then turned the gun on himself. When officers went into the house, they found four bodies and a gun. But what makes this crime even more bizarre is that the man said he was going to do it. He called 9-1-1 at about 3:00 pm Friday afternoon before opening fire.
Jim Pretasky says, "It doesn't feel like it should be here in De Pere. It's not something you see often."
All Pretasky can see is a nightmare.
"It's pretty scary when you look out your back window and see police with assault rifles and guns pointed."
Tragedy tears this De Pere community apart after authorities remove four bodies from a home.
"The person called and said that they shot three other people and then was going to kill himself." said Chief Derek Beiderweiden of the De Pere Police Department.
Those three other people were the man's wife and two children. After taking their lives inside their own home he then turned the gun on himself.
Chief Beiderweiden says, "What we're doing right now is starting to process the scene. Our first steps are to take photographs and measurements and things like that, and we'll collect our evidence."
Investigators still do not know the motive of an incident that leaves Pretasky standing in shock in his own backyard.
"I've seen the family that lives there. I know they got separated and have children, and after one of them moved out, didn't see much of them anymore. I feel bad."
Police are still not releasing the names tonight or the ages of the children.
