Father leaves daughter home alone with pistol to get tattoo
Albuquerque father John Ruiz, 41, faces a child endangerment charge after allegedly leaving his loaded .22 pistol with his daughter while he left his residence to get a tattoo. The criminal complaint notes the girl's age as 11 years old.
"A neighbor called police Saturday after seeing the girl with the gun under her towel at an apartment complex’s pool near Candelaria and Juan Tabo, the complaint states," reports the Albuquerque Journal.
The young girl further shared with police that her father typically leaves the gun on a counter or under his pillow, however, when he's going to run an errand, he gives it to her as protection. He's also taught her how to handle the pistol.
"According to his booking sheet, Ruiz has a cross tattooed on his head that says 'In God I trust,' and tattooed designs on his fingers," further reports the Albuquerque Journal.
Ruiz was booked at the county jail and then released on a $15,000 bond. He first appeared in court on the charges June 30.
