Viral video lampoons North Korean leader Kim Jung Un

We’ve seen a lot of stories lately that start with the words “North Korea is angry over …”

Here’s another.

Now, officials in the country are reportedly furious over a viral video that shows its Supreme Leader, Kim Jung Un, in a less-than-flattering light.

The video (watch it above) is thought to have been created by a Chinese college student who studied in North Korea. It inserts Kim’s face — and often the face of U.S. President Barack Obama and, briefly, Russian President Vladimir Putin — into a series of other popular viral videos, thus appearing to show the world leaders dancing, fighting and being pranked. In various scenes Kim is shown losing his pants, falling in a pool, riding a pig, kicking the stuffing out of a toy dragon, and getting knocked to the ground by Obama. At one point in the video, Kim is portrayed as one of the Kia hamsters.

It’s all set to a catchy Chinese pop song by the group the Chopstick Brothers.

South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo reports that officials in Pyongyang are furious about the three-and-a-half minute video because it “seriously compromises Kim's dignity and authority."

But, NBC News reports, “North Korean officials are learning that nothing can stop the spread of a viral video … The North Korean government has reportedly requested that China stop the spread of the video.”

Chosun Ilbo reports that the Chinese government was “unable to oblige.”
